by towering tulip heads that strangely grow
so heavy with the drink the waiter offers
as it glows, the elixir in the glass.

In the café, I stare, starkly aware
The girl’s gaze shows a growing, dazed dismay,
The patrons pause, in horror and revulsion
while whorls of stars form whitely in the glass.
